Nokia Lumia 925 Review [W Labs]

Nokia Lumia 925 Review [W Labs]

Take in your hand the last mobile high-end market and makes you a little numb with each new generation that goes on sale. With the launch of the the truth is I was not expecting much more than an update of the Lumia 920 and meets the standards of a new generation that tries to convince is the best she has created so far.

So it is a surprise to find teams that actually, yes, they surprise you and make you enjoy the daily use of an operating system, software, design and manufacturing quality.

We analyze the new Nokia Lumia 925, the new high-end smartphone Nokia, that has surprised a lot.

Nokia is a company that has always been at the forefront of design, it was with aberrations over a decade ago with Ngage but in that time most saw it as something amazing. Naive.

From the latest high-end smartphones with Symbian, Nokia has maintained a design reference I think it was particularly well with the Nokia Lumia 800, but this terminal and can be considered outdated after three generations, culminating in the Lumia 925 . I find the design of this Lumia 925 as a next step to the overall design they are doing in their devices, where surely the use of plastic on the back is what is striking. In his Versioned silver / white back cover is this strange, it definitely would have improved greatly if the same tone, something that does not happen with the black version, which at least in Spain is sold exclusively with Vodafone operator and 32 GB capacity.

Although strangely the rear, I can not deny that he has done significant work to reduce its thickness. Especially in the part of the camera and lens, which when PureView technology device could be expected to be much thicker for their part of the camera. The truth is that the lens is more raised than the rest of the back, but very slightly but enough to make it a point of apollo.

For the rest of the details, with headphones, micro SIM slot, micro USB connection at the top and volume buttons and camera on the right, are somewhat normal in Lumia series. Honestly, this top note too full of holes, the micro USB connector if you were at the bottom earn more points, otherwise excellent design.

I can not help thinking that this device, like all Lumia with a ClearBlack display with this as deep black level, would substantially if the entire device was black. But in general terms, the Lumia 925 is very well designed with only hold for a few moments feel like a premium device.

You will notice that on the back there are three points, these are the points of connection tapas Nokia sells extras that add function induction charging. This device comes standard with a technology that was introduced in repeated Lumia 900 and Lumia 920. The reality is that even when you have an inductive charging are still as expensive, do not stop using it, is a feature that few use now and has not achieved wide acceptance, perhaps because the prices of the bases.

Just below these points / connectors find a speaker that seems insufficient. When you’re playing music with this speaker and backside on a table automatically notice how low enough quality to be so close to the surface where it poses. In this case a speaker at another point, such as at the bottom have been more appropriate.

Nokia does not disappoint, I still think ClearBlack technology is the best available on screens. The brightness level is achieved and that color black so deep that coincides with the edge of the screen is spectacular.

The AMOLED panel has a size of 4.3 inches and a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels, plus a Gorilla Glass 2 protection. The union of these features is a large screen for nothing feels overwhelming as other devices you that rub or are already in the five inches, but it feels great to see videos or pictures. I can not but praise the work of this screen, looks good in almost every angle and view photos or videos is a delight. The resolution is not Full HD, but with a density of 332 ppi we are almost a screen “Retina” in which the sources are smoothed and perfect definition to read.

Nokia gets one of those characteristic of some old terminals with Symbian, Nokia Glance, the clock is always displayed with the screen locked and activated whenever there is a little light on the outside. It’s one of those little, simple, making a phone something useful, because how many do not stop to check the time on your mobile, turn on the screen and save it and do not remember the time? A simple and do not need to turn on your screen.

When we are outdoors, especially in bright days with direct sunlight, we find an automatic adjustment of brightness on the highest level. This does not mean that it is fully visible but if you can see almost no problems that’s what you’re pressing.

Another feature that integrates the Lumia 925 on your screen is a touch high sensitivity, specially designed to be able to use the touch screen with gloves in cold areas, something that always made less when you have to find some gloves compatible with these screens.

PureView Technology, this is what you’ll hear when you go to ask or read a review article Lumia 925 camera. Definitely technologies with its own name aside, the Lumia 925 camera is excellent, a few clear photos and a little more angle than other devices thanks to Carl Zeiss optics.

Perhaps, in the case of the Nokia Lumia, the chamber is divided into a 75% technology / hardware and 25% software, because if there is something that Nokia has bothered to make is that the Lumia have applications for use with the camera as Cinemagraph, Nokia Smart Cam, Panorama, Smart Shot or PhotoBeamer.

A normal day level with good light conditions (it is summer in Spain, hard to find a cloudy around here now) photographs are very good, we find differences with other cameras like the iPhone 5, no doubt, but the level color and realism of the shot are true to life. Where even think it should improve Lumia 925 and Lumia series in general is the noise level in the image that can be viewed at 100%.

But we can not deny to the evidence of the work done with PureView technology. While we are confident that this technology has not yet reached its full potential in Windows Phone, we can see that when we have good light to take a picture. If you are in a time when you have to take a picture with bad quality of light, something that tends to happen often, if you find a point of support or you are able to stabilize your hands to take a photo at least move possible, do great photos, right now you will not believe

If you have a good foothold probably have to activate the LED flash or play with the ISO number. No practice goes better with this camera to get a good picture with a very poor light conditions.

The following photos are taken with a Lumia 925 presets without flash and with an iPhone 5 with no Flash presets to check on an equal footing, which is capable of making this technology.

The video is paramount today, and not only for recording personal and family videos, video has become an easy way to communicate any event or circumstance. We have to assess mainly the color fidelity and an automatic mode to be able to focus properly and change the white balance quickly when the scene requires. With Lumia 925 is noticeable effort on the lens and the camera and although generally I have nothing against the video mode is still a little slow to focus automatically.

But, yes, very good Lumia 925 video recording at a resolution of 1080p and 720p, which is strangely the default format instead of 1080p. Special mention and surely one of the letters should play more Nokia with its image stabilizer. Nokia Lumia 900 and introduced innovations in this area and as in the test video we recorded while walking and down stairs, even if you see the image moving, it’s nothing compared to what my hand could move. These are small video stabilizing software upgrades and can not do great miracles, but a good system that Nokia should be proud.

Video and music, you will not find big changes if we compare ourselves with some of the Lumia útlimos as mentioned, as the Lumia 920 . In Music + Video hub we are with everything you may need, such as Xbox SmartGlass application that lets you control an Xbox 360 straight from your smartphone.

We have the videos you have downloaded or uploaded via USB, plus videos that we recorded with the camera. Your music stored on the internal memory and integration of Nokia Music, which is perhaps one of the advantages of having a Nokia in the multimedia aspect, access to free radio.

Windows Phone 8 means using Internet Explorer 10, which is compatible with HTML5 and web page today. Fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately, has not changed in this version of Windwows Phone, so the features and speeds of the Lumia 920 Lumia remain at 925.

I can confirm that when you browse using LTE networks find that the page loading speed up, but not anything drastic, find a faster charge but for now, under Vodafone’s LTE network in Spain can not say that the speed of navigation revolutionize web.

Lumia 925 is the first Windows Phone device from Nokia that includes the new version of Windows Phone optimized for Nokia, Lumia Amber, but also with GDR2, the new Windows Phone update which includes new features like FM radio, support for CalDAV and CardDAV protocols for synchronization with Google accounts. Amber Lumia what is the application includes Smart Camera, Nokia Glance (clock on the lock screen) and the possibility to choose the color profile (saturation and temperature) under Settings “screen.

Office, OneNote, Portfolio + Beta Drive HERE, HERE Maps, Nokia Music HERE Transit or are applications already available in the past Lumia and we are meeting in the Lumia 925.

Unfortunately we can not offer a comparison with a benchmark, because to compare with other devices the only solution would be to use the AnTuTu application that keeps failing on new Windows Phone. This is due to a problem with the application to test the speed of the CPU. But disabling CPU and GPU, we have found a score of 1582, which will serve as future reference.

But in normal use, we find excellent performance which relates applications thanks to the processor Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core 1.5 GHz. The speed of opening and the time between switching applications, but especially in games such as Real Racing 2, we find the same gameplay, but almost the same level of graphics that can be found on other platforms, which is something disappointing.

Regarding the battery, integrates the same as in the Lumia 920, a Li-Ion 2000 mAh. Whenever we’re on the subject of battery on an analysis usually always say that the results always seem to vary depending on the use, including stress tests and play a video in high definition with full battery until it runs out, you can give different measurements .

During the time I’ve had this device, taking into account that you use email, social networking, camera (photo and video) and a rede use LTE, 3G and on Wi-Fi, the battery is able to hold around 14 hours until the critical moment in which charges your battery or terminal or off. Admittedly, the use of LTE network may use more battery power than 3G networks, but if we use more time Wi-Fi networks to mobile networks, you can get a day of trouble.

This is, yes, this is the best Windows Phone smartphone Nokia has created in its history. Even with its faults as far as software is concerned, especially for the Windows Phone ecosystem, consider the as one of the best Nokia smartphones without doubt the best Windows Phone’s market right now.

An incredible screen, a camera that lets you amazed once you are able to handle correctly under poor light and a battery made in Nokia software completing a smartphone you earn more than the name Windows Phone flagship.

The Lumia 925 is perhaps the first device that makes me rethink the choice of an iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy S4 as personal choice for a new smartphone in my life. Maybe the catalog of Windows Phone still not as good as Android or iOS, but for the heavy user of mobile meets all my expectations.
